'Jurassic World Rebirth' First Look: Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey Energize the Dinosaur Franchise
Universal has unveiled the first look at "Jurassic World Rebirth," the seventh installment in the 31-year-old franchise. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, and is directed by Gareth Edwards ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "The Creator") from a script by David Koepp, who penned the original "Jurassic Park" in 1993.
Set five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion," the film's official summary reveals that Earth's ecology has become largely uninhabitable for dinosaurs. Those that remain are isolated in equatorial regions resembling their former habitats. The story centers around three colossal dinosaurs in this tropical biosphere, whose DNA holds the potential for life-saving breakthroughs for humanity.
Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a covert ops expert hired to lead a team in extracting DNA from the three largest surviving dinosaur species. Ali stars as her partner, Duncan Kincaid; Bailey portrays Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist; and Rupert Friend ("Homeland") takes on the role of Martin Krebs, a representative from the drug company funding the mission. The team also includes Philippine Velge ("Station Eleven"), Bechir Sylvain ("BMF"), and Ed Skrein ("Deadpool").
The team’s mission takes a dramatic turn when they encounter a civilian family whose boating expedition is attacked by aquatic dinosaurs. Stranded on an island, the group uncovers a dark secret hidden from the world for decades.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo ("The Lincoln Lawyer") plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked family, which also includes Luna Blaise ("Manifest"), David Iacono ("The Summer I Turned Pretty"), and Audrina Miranda ("Lopez vs. Lopez").
Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing the film, with Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart, and Jim Spencer serving as executive producers.
"Jurassic World Rebirth" is set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025.
