England Squad Update: Lee Carsley Announces First Selections, Including Four Uncapped Players

Lee Carsley has opted for a youthful approach as he begins his tenure as England’s interim manager, selecting uncapped players Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Noni Madueke.

Notably absent from the squad are Marcus Rashford, James Maddison, and Kyle Walker. Additionally, Kieran Trippier has retired from international football, and Jude Bellingham is sidelined due to injury.

Carsley has reinstated Jack Grealish, who was omitted by former manager Gareth Southgate for Euro 2024, and also welcomed back Harry Maguire, who missed the tournament due to injury, and Nick Pope.

Rico Lewis and Levi Colwill, each with just one senior cap, have also been recalled as Carsley looks to the next generation of talent.

Who has been selected for Lee Carsley’s England squad?

One notable omission from the squad is Kieran Trippier, a veteran from the Gareth Southgate era. But what about Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker?

Walker, at 34, has only been a substitute for Manchester City in their first two games of the season. Meanwhile, Maguire missed the Euros this summer and was notably replaced by the impressive Marc Guehi.

Although Walker has expressed his desire to continue his international career, his Manchester City teammate Rico Lewis is a potential rival for his spot.
